THE MD

Nothing stays still for long in business.

This is especially true in the world of recruitment, where the pace is quicker than ever. Growth in the white-collar job market has been at 5.5% per year for the last five years, and the latest Australian Industry Group survey reported solid growth in the manufacturing industry.

Trojan Recruitment Group hasn’t just been riding the coat tails of the employment market as it thunders along. We are proactively growing our business to ensure we can better serve our customers. Crunching the numbers from 2006-07, we achieved:

And to celebrate our success – 6 opportunities for our staff to win at the Above & Beyond Awards !

This financial year we won’t be resting on our laurels either. Our goals include tripling the size of our Corus People Solutions business and budgeting 20 per cent sales growth of the Trojan Recruitment Group as a whole.

We are also continuing to explore the possibility of bringing more companies into the group as we seek to better serve our clients, no matter what their industry and business is.

We look forward to your partnership with us at this exciting time.

GREENING YOUR WORKPLACE

switch

A survey of 1800 employees has found the environment is a motivating factor when choosing an employer, says reward program provider RedBalloon Corporate.

The study of employees in small, medium and large Australian businesses found more than 90 per cent feel their offices are not ‘green’ enough and believe more could be done for the environment.

Genevieve Jones, Trojan Recruitment Group’s HR Manager, says, “Environmental initiatives can be simple and cost-effective but have a large payoff in terms of employee satisfaction.”

Genevieve’s top green workplace tips

  1. Save energy by turning off equipment when it’s not being used. Install energy efficient light bulbs, move computers to flat screens and ‘thin clients’, which also reduce landfill.
  2. Encourage double-sided printing by converting your printer to duplex. Use 100 per cent recycled paper.
  3. Choose suppliers who take back packaging for reuse.
  4. Search for greener products and services in the local community – the further supplies have to travel, the more energy is used.
  5. Convert paper intensive work practices to electronic versions eg. email payslips and invoices.

FOCUS ON FOREIGN WORKERS
FOR TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS

The Federal Government has established a working group to explore the use of 457 visas in the transport and logistics industry.

With representatives drawn from transport and logistics companies, unions, industry associations and academia, the group will investigate skill shortages.

Ultimately, it will advise the Government on the appropriateness of 457 temporary visas for workers with skills in mechanics, panel repair, trailer construction and repair, suspension systems, automotive computer control systems, warehouse handling systems and equipment, logistics management and driving.

Trojan Recruitment Group can supply clients with suitable candidates for driver, dispatch manager and storemen roles. We also work alongside clients to source staff internationally for exceptional projects.

TORO AUSTRALIA

Toro is the country’s largest supplier of turf care and irrigation products to the professional turf, landscape and agricultural markets.

Established in Australia more than 40 years ago, Toro also supplies watering, mowing turf and care equipment for golf courses, municipalities, schools and landscape contractors and residential needs under the Toro, Pope and Irritrol brands.

“With more than 200 staff across eight national locations, we previously had a variety of recruitment suppliers, with varying levels of service,” said Russell Foote, Toro HR Manager. “We began working with Trojan Workforce in Brisbane about 12 months ago, and the group now looks after nearly all our recruitment needs.”

Toro’s labour needs vary according to both financial and seasonal cycles, with peaks in the workflow requiring additional resources. Trojan supplies manufacturing process technicians, mobile equipment service technicians, warehouse staff and some permanent technical support staff. As vacancies arise, Trojan labour hire staff often shift into these permanent positions. Corus has also recruited for administration roles in Adelaide and Melbourne.

“Trojan understands our business needs and has the technical skills and experience to know what we are looking for. They are responsive and quick to correct any errors. They deliver at all levels – from my relationship with Frank, through to accounts payable, through to the account manager/supervisor level,” says Russell.

Trojan Recruitment Group’s General Manager Southern Region, Frank Morgante, is also Toro’s national account manager. “Toro is a great client, it’s a pleasure working across the various offices. Our national approach works well for them, and Russell feels comfortable to ring me directly with any issues – we’ve built up a good relationship.”

Russell says: “The biggest advantage of our relationship is the countrywide reach of Trojan Recruitment Group. They are a national one-stop shop that has streamlined our labour hire, billing and timesheet systems.”
