Best career advice ever received?

Work in a job that you like not just for money. When I like a job, I’ve always been good at it, so promotions and pay rises follow. When I haven’t enjoyed it, I found it harder to motivate myself.

Tips for work/life balance?

Don’t overstretch yourself. Working 12 hour days will affect your performance at work as well as your home life. Time management is as important to your business life as your home life.

Ideal career in five years time?

At this point in my life, settling in a new country, I have the chance to start something completely new. My ideal career would be as a personal trainer, as I love working with people. The chance to make a difference to people’s health and well-being really appeals to me.

Most unusual job?

I worked at a food stall at the Adelaide Festival, peeling corn and pushing the skewer through so it was primed for the BBQ! I went by the name of Captain Salad. The work was tough and I worked into the small hours of the night.

Who has inspired you most at work?

I started work at 18 and have held a lot of roles, but I’ve never worked with a company with such great customer service as Corus. Every time I left a message, I always got a call back even if they didn’t know the answer. While I was waiting for work, they called to keep in touch. When I returned from the UK, Corus set me up with a job three days after I arrived. Corus and I share the same values when it comes to service.

OUR GUIDE DOG PUPPY

 Campbell the guide dog puppy

Corus Adelaide staff decided to donate their annual staff Christmas contribution to one of their many not-for-profit clients: the Royal Society for the Blind (South Australia).

“We raised enough to help sponsor a guide dog puppy for 12 months,” says Corus’ Amy Arcangeli.

“The donation will contribute to the cost of raising, training and caring for a puppy as it grows into a guide dog.

“We’ve also placed a money tin next to our coffee machine, so the money we save on buying coffees can go towards our puppy’s training,” Amy says. “We’re looking forward to hearing about our puppy’s progress, and hopefully we’ll send some representatives to its graduation ceremony.”
