TROJAN TAKES OUT WORKCOVER AWARD
Trojan Recruitment Group Adelaide has won a WorkCover South Australia Recovery and Return to Work Award 2008.
One of three finalists for the Employer Excellence Award (large employers), Trojan was recognised for its dedicated leadership in safety and long-term commitment to returning injured workers to the workforce.
Frank Morgante, General Manager Southern Region, said Claims and OH&S Coordinator Jane Barrett coordinated the team effort that has returned 11 of the 12 workers injured in the last 12 months to the workplace.
“When Jane started just under a year ago, we had lots of people receiving workers’ compensation, rather than doing modified duties,” Frank explains.
“Jane worked to educate our team about the importance of keeping injured workers positive and getting them back to work.”
Trojan has developed solid relationships with an industrial therapist and rehabilitation consultant. Despite the challenges of arranging for host companies to provide modified duties for injured workers, Frank says nearly all of Trojan Workforce’s clients have come on board and there has been a 100 per cent increase in clients willing to provide light duties to injured workers.
In one case, a new client has taken on an injured worker who crushed his right hand. After less than a month, he was offered a full-time position and is up for a promotion.
“Jane worked with him to get him into a positive mindset and ready to return to work. Having a consistent point of contact helped,” Frank says.
With WorkCover claim statistics showing that the probability of returning to work decreases the longer a worker is away, Frank says his team has enjoyed coming together to keep injured workers positive and get them back into the workforce.
“It’s a good feeling to be able to help severely injured workers who felt they may never be able to work again.”
Trojan MD Michael Cherry says the award is great recognition of the work the company has been doing to improve safety.
“Congratulations to the whole South Australian team – this is a fantastic achievement!”
